Here’s what’s in store for the last ever Windows ‘Moments’ update

Microsoft is about to release its latest Windows 11 update, named “Moment 5” or the “February 24 Moment.” It’s expected in the next few weeks and brings some important changes.

After this update, Microsoft is going back to updating Windows 11 annually. This means more stability and fewer big changes to your system. Goodbye to those frequent “moment” updates and hello to a more predictable schedule.

Now, let’s see what Moment 5 has in store:

One key improvement is in Windows 11’s accessibility tools. Microsoft is making it better for those who rely on them. Voice Access is getting upgrades, supporting multiple monitors and more languages. “Voice shortcuts” for personalized voice commands are being introduced. Narrator can preview new natural voices and works with voice access for various tasks.

You can now write directly into text boxes with a stylus across the system, making it easier for digital pens. Also, for the first time, Microsoft lets you uninstall some in-box apps like Edge, Camera, and Photos.

The Windows Search pane is becoming more flexible, allowing third-party search providers like Google or Yahoo to create plugins. So, if you prefer a different search engine, you can switch.

The Nearby Share feature is improving with “friendly name” support, making file sharing easier. Windows Spotlight, showing Bing’s background of the day, becomes the default wallpaper setting. Copilot is now “undockable” for more flexibility, and you can find it in the Windows ALT+TAB menu.

Widgets Board is getting updates too. You can disable Microsoft News integration for a widget-only layout. Third-party news services can build plugins to integrate with the Widgets Board, giving more options.

Notepad gets a character count feature and an “Edit with Notepad” shortcut in context menus for some file types.

In short, Moment 5 brings many improvements to Windows 11, making it more user-friendly and versatile.
